World War series is a great spot to take off, since everyone is already at war and we get all the great WWII technology, nations in full mobilization and aliens.  Who could want more?  Sci Fi additions to historical periods allow players to use real equipment vs new equipment that is unknown.  Not unlike the first time the Germans faced a T34 or the Russians faced a Panther.
