What next?

I was wondering what period people would like to get the pz8 treatment next. I'm in favour of changing the aerial combat rules into ancient galleys or having a play with colonial skirmish and seeing if I can make a dark age game with it.
Any other mad ideas?

Both are good ideas... I think too that the Colonial Rules could be tweaked to make a Dark Age game... or even a fantasy game...

I'd like to see fantasy rules, though I'm not sure I'd want them based on the Colonial rules set.

I'd also like to see modern naval rules.

What sort of modern naval? Post ww2 or really modern? Fleet combat or chasing smugglers? A lot of hi tech weaponry could be streamlined if we went for a top down fleet approach.

I have no experience with modern naval... maybe the WW2 rules could be adapted?

Since when has a lack of experience stopped me? A bit of reading, a general idea and working out how to abstract the balance - that's the key!

Current to slightly in the future fleet combat. Things like rail guns, cavitating hulls, tri-marine hulls, stealth, etc... could all be generalized, but should at least get a nod.

A built up Chinese navy vs USA navy to put it bluntly.

The trouble for that with me would be picking a scale and size - ranges being so huge the ships would have to be mega tiny to get a game on a table.

I agree and have been working on an abstract system. I plan to start a new post discussing how to put this all together and keep it at two pages.

Hallmark make some 1:6000 scale ships but their modern really seems to go up to the 80s and early 90s - and no Chinese ships from what I can see.
Mind you, there's something about the Iowa class battleships I do love. Couple that with ultra tiny minis and it's another project idea that's cool but I neither have time nor money for.

Hehe I go cheaper than that. I've got Micro Machines and old dollar store ships that I'll use. The beauty of "future" naval warfare is I can define what the ships will look like myself.
